John McNicol

CEO, Nova Modus

John provides independent expert advice and support to private and public sector organisations across both technology and commercial aspects of Connected and Autonomous Mobility. He is helping to deliver six of the UK projects investigating the testing and adoption of “driverless cars”. He scoped the projects, assembled the consortia, authored five successful bids winning more than £14M UK funding to match almost £11M industry investment.

VENTURER investigated handover and other human factors in autonomous vehicle behaviour. FLOURISH researched how older adults might use driverless vehicles. INSIGHT looked at low speed automated vehicles (PODs) operating amongst pedestrians. CAPRI has demonstrated a POD-based mobility service for campuses. ROBOPILOT will demonstrate fully autonomous operation of an all-electric van used for local delivery services. MultiCAV will investigate automated public transport vehicles as part of a wider Mobility as a Service solution connecting a business park with a rail station.

John is graduate in physics and worked in semiconductor electronics and high frequency wireless for almost 20 years, leading a couple of start-up companies, and including a short secondment in Silicon Valley.
